Being Still- Part 4 – Choosing to be still

Choosing to be still amidst the distractions

As a Christians there are so many scriptures about being still, and others encouraging us to be still. Learning to be still is a healthy life style to cultivate. It requires us to simple pause, stop and be quiet.  Yes, but with all the buzzing around it almost feels that it is an impossible task, but during it all, we still must find that space, place where we set aside, perhaps for our daily devotion, prayer, or just a quiet time for refection’s and time out.

Being still will require you to decide to make time, you will have to make some sort of commitment to access this space otherwise you simply will not get your quiet time. So, discipline is a must for this.

Psalm 62: 5-6 Be still in the presence of the Lord, and wait patiently for him to act. Don’t worry about evil people who prosper or fret about their wicked schemes.

Be Still in your waiting

Sometimes we are faced with things that we may want and are expecting to come to fruition, but it may not come or happen at the time you anticipated, then what? Remember you have no control over it or the situation and it is during these times that we must make the choice to surrender and simply wait on God, which means you must be still and patiently waiting for the promise.  I love this scripture in James that talks about patiently waiting the farmer knows that once the seed was sown all he had to do was to be still and wait for the rain and then the harvest. (James 5:7 Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains.

We know people don’t like waiting and at times our waiting can be over a brief time or an extended period, unfortunately not everyone is willing and able to be still and trust God to take them through, but now not only do we have to wait, but we need to be still, so we can’t move around or try to help God by making suggestions of how to do things.

In Genesis 16 it tells us what happened when Abraham and his  wife Sarah  did not sit  still in their waiting for God’s promised child, but rather tried to help God and  the rest is history. Do not  fall captive to this, be still in your waiting.

Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God. 

This scripture reminds us of God’d promises and sovereignty.
