Overcoming Fear – Part 4 Mind Battle – In The Midst Of The Storm
Mind Battle – In The Midst Of The Storm
I suffered in silence because I thought that people might not understand, and it might sound simple or trivial to them, but to me, the very thought of driving became overwhelming. I would cry because I felt helpless, I wanted to drive but this fear had consumed me. I was afraid, and my mind would race back to the “Motorbike incident. I tried to shift fear away, but it wasn’t moving, and I did not know how to do it.
When people would ask me why I was not driving, I simply said it was too expensive and I did not need a car, that usually worked, and kept them off my back, phew! and that became my standard response. Even though the real reason was silently attacking me.
So you can imagine how I felt when one day someone replied to my “standard response” and said to me, but you have money to go holiday but not to do your driving lesson” I made no comment. I just smiled, but deep down that hurt and you know, I just let it go they had no idea, I had to confront something that I thought was impossible.
I prayed and searched the scriptures that talked about fear, I read inspirational quotes, listen to audios about dealing on how to overcome fear. I found these would help and for a short while felt motivated. Gradually I began to entertain the idea that I could possibly drive again. The truth was I knew that in order for me to get to the next stage,I had to face my fears, head on.Read More in my next post.Overcoming Fear – Confronting The Giant (The Big F)
