Staying Connected To God

Staying Connected to God: A Call to Recharge and Refocus

Have you ever plugged your phone in to charge, only to realize later that it hasn’t charged at all? Frustrating, isn’t it? Upon investigation, you find that while the charging cable was connected to your phone, the power socket wasn’t switched on. The connection to the main power source was inactive. This simple oversight holds a profound spiritual truth: staying connected to the right source is essential for functioning at full capacity.

Connecting to the Right Source

We cannot function at full strength if we’re not connected to the ultimate power source—God. Yes, we can run on reserves for a while, but over time, our light will dim until it eventually goes out. To thrive, we need to stay fully connected and continually recharge. Just as a phone needs time to charge to operate effectively, we need to make intentional time to reconnect with God to operate at maximum spiritual capacity.

Maintaining Growth

In our professional lives, staying connected to professional bodies keeps us updated with innovations, policies, and best practices. Similarly, in our spiritual lives, staying connected to God elevates us and helps us become better versions of ourselves. It provides the strength, guidance, and clarity needed to navigate life’s challenges and fulfill our purpose.

Seven Practices to Stay Connected with God

Here are seven practices that have helped me remain spiritually connected:

  1. Make Time to Sit in His Presence
    • Schedule intentional quiet moments to simply be with God. One of the my best places to seek God are in my kitchen and my car.
  2. Read and Meditate on His Word
    • Dive deep into scripture and allow His truth to guide your heart.
  3. Go on Prayer Walks
    • Walk and talk with God, inviting Him into your thoughts and surroundings.
  4. Engage in Worship Time
    • Spend time in heartfelt worship, lifting your spirit and focus heavenward Worship lifts the atmosphere.
  5. Maintain a Gratitude Journal or Jar
    • Record and reflect on God’s blessings, fostering a spirit of thankfulness You will be amazed at how much we are thankful for
  6. Invest in Encouraging Others
    • Build someone up with your words, actions, or time. You find it rewarding and fulfilling giving back it takes the focus of yourself.
  7. Create Space for Reflection
    • Regularly assess your life and spiritual journey, seeking God’s direction.

Lessons from Reflection

Looking back over the years, I’ve noticed that God has a unique way of getting my attention when I drift. In a world filled with distractions, particularly from technology, I’ve had to learn to prioritize and protect my time with God. Without carving out that sacred time, staying connected becomes a struggle, no matter how good my intentions are.

Time to Switch Off

One practical step I’ve adopted is literally switching off my phone—not just to airplane mode, but completely off. This helps me eliminate distractions and be fully present with God. In these moments, I focus on hearing His voice and discerning His will without the noise of the world crowding in.

If we don’t recognize when God is trying to get our attention, we risk missing His call. Sometimes, God will remove us from places or people that captivate our minds so He can redirect our focus. It’s often in those moments of solitude and stillness that our vision is corrected, allowing us to see clearly what He wants us to see.

A Fresh Start for 2025

As we step into 2025, let’s commit to staying connected to the source that illuminates our path. Let’s recharge spiritually, focus on what truly matters, and strive to become the best versions of ourselves. Make this the year you prioritize your connection with God, ensuring your light shines bright in all that you do.
