Overcoming Fear – Part 7 “Sticking to the Diet Plan”
Sticking to the diet plan
It is easy to start a diet plan, and is easy to get off one too. How many times have we set a goal or said that we will do something, and we begin with zeal, determination, we are focused and consistent, and a few weeks or months down the line we slowly become distracted or just simply loose interest, not motivated and we find ourselves not completing what we initial started.
I knew that in order to get the desired result, had to simply stick to the plan so I did. I took my 1st practical driving test and I failed. I was discouraged, and fear started to rear its ugly head. So, I counteracted that fear immediately by doing the exact opposite. I did not allow any time for self-pity. I made a decision to retake my test and immediately booked my 2nd driving test.
On the day for my 2nd driving test, everything was going well until I made one major mistake and I knew that it was over,I had failed that test and fear immediately took me back to the day I had the near collision. So I started crying, and I asked the examiner to take me back to the test test centre, as I knew I had failed with “flying colours “and if not, God had definitely granted me favour… after a quick talk with the examiner, I proceeded with my test.
At the end of the test, I did not come as a complete shock that I had failed test 2. Mixed emotions welled up in me, it was more like how can this be, I did worse in the 2nd attempt, for a moment I thought I am done with this, that was it for me. My instructor was doing his part trying to encourage me with stories of people passing on their 5th and 10th attempt and I was like no,that’s not going to be my story. I needed to pass like yesterday, but I just listened. It had been a long journey to get to where I was, and I hadn’t endured all this while with the investments involved to give up now. I had to persevere, and I had to re-focus and look at the desired goal and not let these little stumbles obscure my vision. So later that day, I re-booked my 3rd driving test.
